Yoga’s wonderful ability to help unravel, soften andsoothe muscular and mental tensions means I am more likely to try a few gentle poses and yoga-breathing before reaching for a tablet to ease a pesky headache. Thankfully, I don’t get headaches too often. For me, an achey-breaky noggin feels like a tight band of pressurearound the head, and hits me when I’ve spent too muchnegative time up there - overthinking, worrying, stressing and/or i’ve strained my neck or shoulders (usually from carrying a cranky toddler!) Other common causes include eye-strain, dehydration and poorposture.
The pain of a headache can strike when various structures of the head, such as skin, muscles, nerves, arteries and sinuses are irritated or inflamed. The sensation of pain can also be ‘referred’, which means that pain occurring in one area can transmit the feeling of pain to an area nearby. An example is the referred pain of a headache occurring from a sore neck.
A little gentle movement through yoga promotescirculation - improved circulation contributes to improvedpain and less stress. Lowering the head down also getsoxygen and blood flowing to the brain to assist healingand pain releif.

Before resorting to a pill I also try a couple of drops ofrescue remedy, and massage a sprinkle of lavenderessential oil into my temples.
Of course remember, folks, ‘If pain persists, see your Doctor’!
Wishing you a calm and headache-free day, Bronni
