Lessons from the rain..
Today's insights are inspired by a beautiful outdoor yoga practice I led last Friday, where 5 gorgeous yogisjoined me on a wet, rainy morning. So being the flexible, adaptable yogis that we are, we took advantage of the large covered shelter at Croudace Bay Park and rolled out our mats there, avoiding the occasional puddle.
The sound of the rain on the tin roof above us was truly lovely, and brought to mind the yogic guideline of Saucha, often interpreted as 'cleanliness'. I invited the group to imagine themselves being washed clean of tensions, worries and aches. Ahhh....Here's another few ways you can contemplate saucha this week.
- Personal cleanliness, obviously. Although my Hubster loves to chase my kids around for a 'sweaty cuddle' after a run, your bestie may not appreciate you rocking up for a coffee date after a sweaty gym session... Thankfully I've never had to deal with any stinkies in my yoga classes, but you get the idea..
- Eat clean. Now I like my treats ALOT...so you won't hear me forbidding a big slice of cake... but show your body some love by filling up on fresh, unprocessed food first. Then... if you still have room for cake....
- Separate your activities - I love this one. You know when a recipe calls for egg whites, then you crack the shell and get some yolk in the bowl and muck it up?? It's the same with activities. Your yoga practice or time helping your 8 year old with their homework is spoiled if you have one eye on the clock or are thinking about creating world peace.. Be present. Keep your different energies distinct. Work on giving your all to one activity at a time. When you find yourself wandering off, gently come back to the NOW.
- Everything has a place. A clear, clean space also helps the mind feel calm and uncluttered. Do you instantly feel relaxed when you enter a spacious, tidyyoga studio? Me too. Bring this idea into your home and find a space for everything, have just what you need and care for your things. (I am a complete Work-in Progress with this one. Please don't ever call in to my home unannounced..!)
Wishing you a calm and squeaky-clean day, Bronni x
YES YOU CAN...
throw your yoga mat into your washing machine to get it clean! Use a gentle cycle and a smidge of detergent. Note mats take ages to dry - hang on the line on a sunny day.
