Q: When thirsty, what do you do??
It's not a trick question, but what do you do when you're thirsty? You drink, right? Of course! Our brain gives us the thirsty signal, and we respond by giving the body what it needs - hydration.
So what about when you are dog-tired, exhausted, over-committed, fraught and/or emotionally drained?
Do you struggle on, whinge at how busy you are and keepadding to your to-do list hoping those around you will admire your super-coping powers??? Huh?? Or do you listen to your body and give it what it's craving - REST???
DING! Correct Answer. Proceed straight to GO and collect $100.. But really, just as you would never deny yourself water to satisfy your thirst, I madly encourage you to pay attention to the signals and REST when you need to. I won't bang on about it too much... but here are my top 3 reasons to stop and rest:
1) In rest the breath slows, and in turn so does your heart rateand thoughts - you are showing your body and mind whatcalm is. Shown enough, you'll be able to 'drop into' calm and ease more quickly and effectively.
2) You'll be healthier. Big call? Well, in stillness the 'rest and digest' switch is ON. Your food gets the time it needs to digest, reducing tummy aches. BONUS: you'll pooh more efficiently..
3) You'll get more done. Hello, Type A's! Yes, give yourself a little break and you'll return to your tasks refreshed andmentally recharged.
So check in with yourself. Are you tired? Try downing tools and simply lying down for 20 minutes. (set a timer). Not an option today? Even if you're at your desk, ground your feet, close your eyes and count 4 big breaths in and out.
Prioritise rest. You need it. You deserve it. You'll feel better for it. Yes you CAN find time for it. Prioritise it! (or I'll chase you down with an eye-pillow and blanket!)
Wishing you a calm and productive day, with a teeny bit of 'down time'. Bronni x
